A very warm welcome to Term 1 2021.
“TELL ME AND I FORGET. TEACH ME AND I REMEMBER. INVOLVE ME AND I LEARN.” –BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
As you continue your educational journey in 4E we will share knowledge and experiences... I won't teach you what to think. But hopefully I will teach you how to think.
Most importantly let's have some FUN!

During First Term we will read the novelisation of ... 'How to Train Your Dragon' by Cressida Howell.
The first book in the series, following Hiccup as he captures a dragon as a rite of passage and attempts to train him so that he will not be exiled from Berk, as is its tradition. The Vikings live on Berk Island. The main character, Hiccup, is the son of a Viking chief who lives on Berk Island. The dragon has constantly invaded this island, which is why battles never stop. Hiccup is hated in the village because he is weak-willed and weak-minded. Hiccup tries to kill a dragon to be recognized by other Vikings. Led by Gobber the Belch, Hiccup manages to catch a small dragon, whom he names Toothless, and attempts to train it through his own methods, when the How To Train Your Dragon book was found to have only one page and therefore unhelpful. During the final part of the rite of passage, Toothless offends another dragon and a fight ensues between all the dragons. As this is seen as failure to train the dragons correctly, the boys are exiled, allowed to stay one night while a storm rages. During the storm, three Sea Dragons are washed up on the shore of the island and one seems a threat to the Vikings. Hiccup is chosen to negotiate with the dragon, who has eaten one of the other dragons. However, the dragon, who calls himself the Green Death, says he is going to kill all the Vikings. While the village elders argue over how to attack the Green Death, Hiccup, the boys and their dragons start a fight between the Green Death and the other sea dragon, the Purple Death, resulting in Hiccup nearly being swallowed and having to be rescued by Toothless, killing both sea dragons in the process. Hiccup and Toothless become heroes because of their bravery.
It's an exciting and enjoyable novel as we experience the courage and growth of the character Hiccup.
How is Technology in the Classroom defined?
Technology develops so quickly that it can be difficult to understand what “technology in the classroom” means.
It can mean using technology to assist in the learning process.
It can mean teaching students how to use current technology so that they are adequately prepared for the demands of today’s world.
Technology assists with learning while simultaneously training students for future success.
Bring Your Own Device...(BYOD)
Owning a personal electronic device has become the norm for students of all ages. This trend has given rise to the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) model.
Recent research has suggested that there are numerous benefits to implementing a BYOD model including:
· Increasing skills relevant to workplace and higher education requirements.
· Personalizing the learning experience and giving students a sense of ownership.
· Promoting learning anytime, anywhere.
· Allowing collaboration between students outside of the classroom via digital interactions using mobile applications.
· Reducing direct costs for technology and technology maintenance.
· Creating a seamless learning environment between school and home.
Personal devices offer the benefit of allowing students to access information beyond what is available in textbooks.
